Snooker is a cue sport played on a large rectangular table covered with green cloth, where players use a cue stick to pot balls into pockets to score points. The aim is to outscore your opponent by potting balls in a specific sequence.
Table Layout:
The table measures 12 feet by 6 feet and has six pockets — one at each corner and one at the middle of each long side.
Gameplay Basics:
Starting Play: Players take turns to strike the white cue ball, aiming to pot the red balls first.
Potting Sequence: Players must pot a red ball first, scoring 1 point per red, then pot a colored ball (yellow, green, brown, blue, pink, black) in ascending order of points. After potting a colored ball, it is returned to the table until all reds are cleared.
Scoring: Each ball has a point value: reds (1), yellow (2), green (3), brown (4), blue (5), pink (6), and black (7). Players score points by potting balls legally and lose points for fouls.
Winning the Frame: The frame ends when all balls are potted or one player concedes, and the player with the highest score wins. Matches are played over multiple frames.
Snooker combines skillful cue control, strategic planning, and precision shot-making.
