Tennis is a sport where two or four players (singles or doubles) compete to score points by hitting a ball over a net and into the opponent’s court. The goal is to win more sets than the opponent.
Court Layout:
Tennis is played on a rectangular court divided by a net, with specific markings for singles and doubles, including service boxes and baselines.
Gameplay Basics:
Starting Play: A point begins with a serve, where the server must hit the ball diagonally into the opponent’s service box.
Rallying: After the serve, players take turns hitting the ball over the net, and the ball must land within court boundaries after one bounce.
Scoring: Points progress as 15–30–40–game. A player needs at least four points and a two-point lead to win a game. Six games usually win a set, and matches are best of three or five sets.
Serving: Players alternate serving games. A faulty serve is called a "fault," and two faults in a row lose the point.
Winning a Point: A point ends when the ball is hit out, doesn’t clear the net, or bounces twice before being returned.
Tiebreaks: At 6–6 in a set, a tiebreak may be played to decide the winner. Players alternate serves and must win by two points.
Winning: The player or team that wins the required number of sets wins the match.
Tennis blends athleticism, strategy, and endurance in a dynamic back-and-forth contest, whether played on clay, grass, or hard court.
